When Laziness Becomes a Virtue

When Laziness Becomes a Virtue  In this episode, Dr. David M. Tyler explores how modern culture often rewards laziness and excuses irresponsibility. Through biblical counsel, he contrasts the world’s redefinition of “rest” and “self-care” with God’s call to diligence and stewardship. This practical message reminds believers that genuine rest flows from obedience, not avoidance—and that virtue is found in faithfulness, not comfort.

Are You Slothaphobic?

A Biblical Response to the Redefinition of Sin

by David M Tyler, PhD

Are you slothaphobic? The word doesn’t exist, at least, not yet.
But imagine a world where laziness is no longer frowned upon, where indifference and apathy are celebrated as authentic expressions of self. Suppose sloth became not a vice to overcome, but an identity to embrace.

Sound absurd? That’s exactly the point. The cultural pattern of redefining sin and demanding moral approval has become familiar in our day. To help us see it more clearly, let’s consider a hypothetical movement.

The […]

Biblical Truth About Self-Esteem: Is the Cross Really a Source of Self-Worth?

by David Tyler, PhD

For decades, the message of “loving yourself” has seeped deeply into modern Christianity. Sermons, books, and conferences often teach that the key to happiness and spiritual growth is found in developing healthy self-esteem. But what does the Bible say about self-esteem? Does the cross of Christ call us to esteem ourselves more, or does it call us to die to self and glorify God?

As believers, we must return to Scripture for clarity. The issue isn’t about psychology, personal […]

PODCAST A Counseling Ministry at Your Church; Why?

A Counseling Ministry at Your Church; Why?  Counseling is a targeted part of discipleship that addresses the personal struggles keeping someone from growing spiritually. It involves coming alongside them, applying Scripture to their situation, and helping them understand how to change. It’s a more concentrated and temporary form of discipleship with the goal of restoring spiritual momentum and guiding them back to steady, ongoing growth in Christ.

PODCAST Why I Hated Counseling

By |2025-10-29T12:14:08-05:00October 4th, 2025|biblical counseling, Christian Living, Church & Ministry, Podcast Primary|

Why I Hated Counseling I served as a pastor for 27 years—and I loved it. I loved studying God’s Word and preaching it each week. But one thing I dreaded was counseling. When someone came to me with years of depression, anxiety, or anger, I didn’t know how to help. I could pray with them, listen, maybe share a verse… but deep down, I felt unprepared. What could I offer that would truly change things?”

Love Languages is Not Your Problem   The Five Love languages by Gary Chapman. I do think he gives some constructive advice. For example, everybody has their preferences as to the way they like their spouse to show love. On the other hand, I don’t agree with his main premise. Chapman’s premise is built upon the fact that all people have a natural focus and bias toward self. Self, not God or neighbor is the focus of the book.

PODCAST What Do Therapists Really Do?

What Do Therapists Really Do?   Psychotherapy is considered to be a medical intervention. But is it? What do individuals, called patients and psychotherapists, really do? They talk. Simply put… Psychotherapy is one or more people, called a patient, having a conversation with a therapist. And that is viewed as a medical intervention. Politicians, teachers, lawyers and Oprah talk but no one believes that their talk constitutes a form of medical treatment. My point is, when you consider what psychotherapists say they do and what they actually do is it really a medical intervention?
